Yellowcard Update

Hello friends. As you may know, Sean O’Donnell has decided to leave Yellowcard due to personal reasons. You can read a message from him written to you all here. We are all sad to see him go, but we completely understand his need to make this incredibly difficult decision.

With that said, we are stoked to let you know who will be filling the spot at bass guitar from here out. Please welcome Josh Portman to the family. Josh has been a close friend of ours for several years and he is more than excited to start getting to know you all. We know all of this news is a lot to take in but in the end it is the best thing for all of us. We wish Sean the best with all his future musical endeavors and can’t wait for you all to meet our buddy Josh.

A Message from Sean O'Donnell

In April of 2010, the 5 of us met up in Los Angeles to play some music, hang out, and talk about the future of the band. I felt privileged to be invited to get to do so, and it was an amazing couple of days. Fast forward a year and a half and we’ve put out two full lengths, shot 6 music videos, and traveled to almost 30 countries. It’s been an exhilarating time for all of us in the band and some of the most fun I’ve ever had in my music career. Which is why I’m sad today to let you all know that I am leaving Yellowcard.

This is not one of those ugly messy band member departures that seem to plague rock music. This is a personal decision, and it’s mine. Simple as I can put it, playing in a band that is on a full time touring schedule demands a balancing act of work and family that I can no longer pull off and still remain happy. As you can imagine, this was not an easy decision to make, but usually the really important ones never are.

While I feel confident in my decision, I know I’m walking away from a lot. I feel truly blessed to have been invited to such a close knit family, one that I was welcomed into completely. I’ll miss the guys, I’ll miss the shows, I’ll miss making all those ridiculous YC sessions videos. I’ll miss all of the love I got from the thousands of fans all over the world. When my former band Reeve Oliver was on tour with Yellowcard in 2005, I said onstage that all I could ever hope for was for us to attract fans who were as supportive as Yellowcard fans. I meant it then, but now I realize the full impact of the love and support you guys give. It’s immense, it’s real, and it’s completely necessary for this band to survive and to thrive.

Yellowcard has made great rock records before me, and will no doubt continue to do so without me. I will now continue on in the role that I have held for the last 13 years, that of a devoted fan.

Paris Show – Dec 14th - Change of Venue To La Maroquinerie

Due to technical issues of its own responsibility, La Machine du Moulin Rouge is unable to host the Yellowcard + Saves The Day + The Wonder Years’ show on December 14. The show will now happen at La Maroquinerie on the same day, Thursday 14th December 2011.

The tickets for La Machine will be valid at La Maroquinerie. Refunds are also possible until December 21st – pls contact your local ticket retailer.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this change, which is beyond our/the artist’s control, and we hope to see you all at La Maroquinerie !

We have some news that’s not so great. Unfortunately due to some personal
reasons we are rescheduling our show in Yekaterinburg, Russia that was November
26th. The show will be moved to April 30th, 2012. We know how disappointed our
fans there must be and we sincerely apologize. We hate when things like this
happen and if it wasn’t absolutely necessary we wouldn’t be making the change.
We hope you understand and we look forward to seeing you all in April next year.

Acoustic Album

Over the course of our career, Yellowcard has always taken pride and enjoyment in
performing our songs in an acoustic setting whenever possible. Last year when we
finished recording “When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes”, we decided to record
a few of the songs to be used as b-sides here and there. Shortly after the
release we noticed the incredible response that the acoustic version of “Sing
For Me” was getting online. We thought, “what if we recorded all the songs this
way and tried to get Hopeless Records to release it as an acoustic version of
the entire record?” Lucky for us they seemed to think that was a great idea.

We began using every free day or night we had in early 2011 to finish recording
all ten songs acoustically. One of the things we are most proud of is that we
produced and mixed this entire record on our own. (Much credit is due to Ryan
Mendez for his sleepless nights behind the computer.) This is something the band
has wanted to do for a very long time and we have been looking forward to
surprising all of our fans with this record. It is the least we can do for the
amazing support they have given us as we try to rebuild this career that we love
so much.

So here it is, “When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes (Acoustic). It has been a
hard secret to keep these last few months but we are confident that our fans
will keep this album close to their hearts. It is both a huge accomplishment for
us as a band, and a massive thank you to all of the people who continue to stand
behind this band. We hope you love it.
